CHILDREN'S THEATRE

Children’s theatre is more than just nativity plays; it is a serious art form. Many theatre companies make every effort and are successful in presenting the same high standards of quality in children’s theatre as those in mainstream theatre. The content is largely devoted to children’s interests in children’s theatre although central themes can be universal. Characteristics are bold and creative performance style, music and songs and a direct relationship with the audience.

Children’s theatre provides upcoming audiences with an introduction to the enthralling enchantment of theatre. Many believe that involvement from a young age is the key to enjoyment, appreciation and dedication that lasts for life. Children’s theatre provides an opportunity for children from a young age to influence how they mature and are incorporated into the world. Participation develops imaginations and is a great chance for a child to explore their creativity.

In recent years children’s theatre has continued to grow and now every year there is the Bank of Scotland Children’s International Theatre Festival in Edinburgh organised by Imaginate. The productions tour to other areas in Scotland and it is a great opportunity to see quality work from a number of countries. The performances are on a wide variety of work and every year it is an opportunity to make contacts with producers and experts in the UK and abroad.
